Biography
Platon worked for British Vogue for several years before being invited to NYC to work for the late John Kennedy Jr. and 'George', his political magazine. Through shooting portraits for many international publications such as Rolling Stone, the New York Times, Vanity Fair and many others, Platon developed a relation with Times magazine and produced 20 covers. He photographed Vladimir Putin, the Russian Premier, for Times Person of the Year Cover, and the image received first prize at the World Press Photo Contest. He signed a multi-year contract with the New Yorker in 2008. He produced a series of large scale photo essays, 2 of which won ASME awards in 2009 and 2010. His New Yorker portfolios have focused on varying themes in the Military, portraits of world leaders and Civil Rights Movements. A year later, he worked with the Human Rights watch to celebrate those who fight for justice and equality in countries that have been suppressed by political forces. Through these projects, he is able to highlight rights defenders from Burma to the leaders of the Egyptian revolution. During his time in Burma, he photographed Aung San Suu Kyi days after her release from house arrest for Time's cover. He received a Peabody Award for his collaboration on Russia's Civil Society with the New Yorker in 2011. Platon's first monograph 'Platon's Republic' was published around the same time as the international exhibitions in London at the ex-Saatchi Gallery and the Milk Gallery in New York. 'Power', his second collection was made of over 100 portraits of world leaders. It was published by Chronicle in 2011 and includes pictures of Barack Obama, Hugo Chavez, Tony Blair and more. Public speaking is now a major role in his career. Hes been invited to be a keynote speaker on the subject of leadership in the World Economic Forum in Davos, Chanel, Nike, Yale, Oxford, Wharton, etc...
